Small factions going big - a good idea? - 01. Numenor

We are at the first entry of this new series and we will start with - what a surprise^^ - Numenor! It is the one I thought of and like the most as you might have guessed by now ;) Current status Numenor currently has two named heroes, one unnamed hero and one warrior choice. The two named heroes are among the best, human factions can muster and the unnamed hero and the warrior have a lot of equipment options. The army bonus is ok (as are their alliance options), everyone near named heroes, receives magic resistance and the warriors feature F 4 and S 4. And while there are better options in alliance partners, Captains of Numenor are really good at what they do. This, combined with the big choice of equipment options, gives this faction more flexibility than you might think on first glance. Drawbacks as a small faction The first drawbacks result from the miniatures themselves. They are among the oldest ones being around in the system and that shows. The heroes are ok but have no official...

Small factions going big - a good Idea? - Introduction

If you followed my blog so far, you might have noticed a tendency regarding the armies I play, collect and write about. I am drawn to the ones that are not mainstream, popular or in general not too often played. Or rather, this is a side effect and just coincidence to align with what I like. It depends on the look, the play style, their lore etc, etc. Nonetheless I am playing and thinking a lot about armies which are, for one reason or another, not so popular. And they all have something in common - very limited profile and miniature selection and/or coupled to that, a a limited number of ways to scale and/or play styles. You maybe can relate - when you really like a faction but are aware of its limitation, you think about how it could/should be expanded by GW to make it more usable - e.g. my thoughts on how to expand Numenor .  But while it was really fun to come up with new profiles, I also thought of the other smaller factions and that probably for each of them, there are ...

Aufstieg des Nekromanten LL Rezension

Image

Rise of the Necromancer LL Review

Image
The "Fall of the Necromancer" expansion from autumn 2021, saw four new LL releases. Two of them were hero-only LLs. One was the infamous "Vanquishers of the  Necromancer" - mixing up the tournament scene and stirring up quite a turmoil and discussions about how far a LL should go and if this is not the complete opposite of what the game stands for. While the other LLs (Rangers of Mirkwood and Pits of Dol Guldur) were frequently covered and discussed in podcasts, blogs, YT videos etc, the fourth one was notably absent from all this  or received only a fraction of the time- The Rise of the Necromancer LL. This one was actually the only LL and the only thing of the expansion I was interested in. I had my eyes already set on a Dol Guldur hero-only army for quite some time. And now I received the perfect LL for my needs.  I want to share with you my experience with this force and what I think about it in detail. Let me take you on a journey to the dark paths of Dol Guldu...
